CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans baseball team kicked off a three game series as they traveled to the campus of the Coe College Kohawks this afternoon. The Spartans offense only gathered four hits on the day after suffering an 8-0 loss.
The Spartans only scoring opportunity came in the first inning. After a one out walk from
Colin Husko,
Cole DeStefanis hit a single advancing Husko to second base. Next up,
Bo Karlson grounded out to the shortstop moving up both baserunners to second and third with two outs. The Spartans were unable to capitalize with runner's in scoring position, stranding a pair on the basepaths.
Coe would take the lead in the bottom of the second scoring two runs which was all they needed. Offensively, the Spartans could not find the gaps in the outfield, as they were limited to four hits. All four hits came within the first four innings of play. The Kohawks platted two more runs in the third and four in the sixth as the Spartans were defeated 8-0.
Aidan Sullivan got the start as he recorded the loss tossing five innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six.
Bruno Pallan entered in the sixth inning as he pitched 2.2 innings. Pallan gave up three earned runs on four hits.
Austin Franzen recorded the last out of the eighth inning by forcing a ground out.
The Spartans are now 15-6 overall and 5-5 in A-R-C play.
