ASHLAND, Wis. - The University of Dubuque Spartans lacrosse team headed north as they made the long haul for an afternoon matchup against Northland College, home of the Lumberjacks. Offensively, the Spartans attack was dominant in all facets as 10 different players scored a goal in the 17-4 victory.
The Spartans quickly went to work as they outscored the Lumberjacks 6-0 in the first quarter.
Sam Todd scored the game's first goal at 13:41 which was then followed by a goal from
Ben Farraday as
Giovanni Silva assisted on both. Within a matter of a minute,
Tyler Johnson found the back of the net at 11:39 and a few second later,
William Kowalewski scored stretching the lead out to 4-0 in the first five minutes of the game.
The Spartans would go on to score four more goals before the Lumberjacks got on the board in the second quarter. With 8:25 remaining the Spartans used a 6-0 run to close out the half taking a 14-1 lead into the break. During the run, Todd scored scored two goals while Johnson,
Quintten Rangel,
Aiden Ennett, and
Jacob Collar each scored a goal.
After goals from Culligan and Silva in the third quarter, the Spartans extending their largest lead of the game to 15 (16-1). The only goal for the Spartans in the fourth, came off the stick of Collar as the Spartans won 17-4.
A total of 29 Spartans saw action in today's match. Four different players scored multiple goals as Todd led the way with four followed by Collar with three and Culligan along with Johnson each scored two.
Ryan Doyle and
Nikolas Wortman combined for a total of 15 ground balls.
George Smirl,
Nolan Nagy, and
Landen Othoudt all saw time in the back of the net. Smirl went on to earn his eighth win of the year while Nagy led the team with six saves.
The Spartans finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-7 and 4-1 in conference play.

The Spartans will enter the Midwest Lacrosse Conference tournament with the #2 seed and will face #3 seed Northwestern Eagles. Semifinal games will take place at the higher seed's venue on Wednesday, May 3 starting at 4:00 PM.
