DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The University of Dubuque cheer team competed at the NCA College Nationals last week on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 where they made the finals and finished sixth in the country in the biggest cheerleading competition of the year. The cheer team competed in the Advanced All-girl Division III division for the first time ever.
Back in 2018, the cheer team competed in the Intermediate All-girl Division III division and this season the team got to compete for the first time ever in the Advanced All-girl Division III division. Hundreds of teams were in attendance including big schools such as Navarro College and Trinity Valley Community College from the hit Netflix show "Cheer" as well as other well-known schools in the cheerleading world such as University of Louisville, Weber State, and Texas Tech. Cheer competed on day one at the Daytona Bandshell where they advanced to the finals which were competed on day two of the competition.
Graduate Assistant Cheer Coach, Alex Blaine said, "It was an honor to perform on the bandshell because not even close to all the teams that attend are given the opportunity to compete on the bandshell.
