MONMOUTH, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team opened conference play on the road this afternoon where they would explode offensively in the opening quarter and never look back as they defeated Monmouth College 25-4 for their first Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory of the season.
There would be 10 goals scored by the Spartans in the opening quarter which would be the most by the Spartans this season in a quarter. Six different Spartans would score in the first including four by
Aidan Culligan. The Spartans would then add four goals in the second quarter while allowing Monmouth their first goal to lead 14-1 at half.
The Spartans offensive dominance would continue into the second half as the Spartans saw goals from players that are not the typical contributors for the Spartans.
Tommy Shelby and
Parker Hahne go their first goals of the season in the second half as the Spartans finished the game off with their second largest margin of victory this season.
Quintten Rangel score six goals to lead the Spartans and Culligan finished with seven points off five goals and two assists. Giovanni SIlva contributed three goals and three assists for six points. Shelby finished with two assists to go along with his two goals.
Landen Othoudt got the start in goal for the Spartans earning the win in 30 minutes of action. Othoudt secured three saves.
Nolan Nagy finished the entire second half with three saves.
The Spartans finished with more than double the amount of shots than Monmouth 57-28. The Spartans were able to force 33 Monmouth turnovers and picked up 43 ground balls throughout the game.
