Wrestling Win Final A-R-C Dual Over Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The #20 ranked University of Dubuque wrestling team finished their regular dual season with a 28-13 victory over the Simpson College Storm.

The host Storm jumped out quickly and captured the 125 lbs. match over Tanner Higa by a 7-1 decision. Jesus Sanchez (133) lost by a fall in 1:21. Trailing 0-9, UD responded by winning the next four matches. Jevontea Yarbrough (141) won by a fall in 5:58 to put the Spartans in the scoring column. Billy Looney (149) scored bonus points with a major decision 14-5. Luke Radeke (157) won by a decision 7-2.

Devinaire Hayes edged out a tough match by a 4-3 decision before the Storm would capture their final match with a major decision over Thomas McCReadie (174). The Spartans won the final three matches to capture the dual. Kurtis Modlin (184) won by injury default in :58. Tyler Thurston (197) won by a 3-0 decision, and Darryl AIello won 285 lbs. match with a 5-3 decision.

The Spartans host the UD Junior Varsity Invite on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center. UD will next wrestle at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield, Ill. on Feb. 24-25 with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships in Roanoke, Va. on March 10-11.
