Men's Basketball Move to Within a Game for A-R-C Lead

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team moved to half game back of the conference leaders after claiming their second consecutive road victory. The Spartans won at one of the toughest places to play, Siebens Center in Storm Lake. UD rallied from a halftime deficit on Wednesday night to capture a win over the Buena Vista University Beavers 65-57.

UD made the trek across highway 20 and fell behind in the opening half after shooting below 30% from the field. The Beavers held a 34-29 edge at halftime and the Spartans would out score the hosts 36-23 in the final half of action. UD scored 34 points in the paint, added 22 second chance points, and swapped the lead 11 times.

A trio of Spartans finished in double digit scoring with sophomore Jaylin McCants finishing with a game high 19 points. Sam Kilburg added 13 points, two assists and two steals as teammate Dylan Anderson came off the bench to score 10 points grab seven rebounds. Brock Simon paced all the rebounders with 13, 11 of which on the defensive side of the ball and led the team with five assists.

"We played a very good second half on the road," said head coach Robbie Sieverding. "Dylan Anderson played well for us off the bench and our team defense was much better in the second half. We were also much better getting to the paint and to the foul line in second half. Looking forward to a few extra practices with our bye coming this Saturday."

The Spartans (8-4 in A-R-C) have just four conference games left and will enjoy a rest over the weekend with their bye after two long road contests. Central College and Loras College lead the Spartans by half a game (8-3 A-R-C records) and the pair will face one another at Loras in Dubuque on Saturday. Nebraska Wesleyan University is tied with the Spartans with an 8-4 mark and the Wartburg College Knights sit just a game back with a 7-4 record.

The Spartans will travel to face Coe on Feb. 8, host Simpson College on Feb. 11 and Loras College on Feb. 15 before wrapping up the regular season at Luther College on Feb. 18.
