SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team fell in the final game of 2023 to the Marian University Sabres at the UW-Superior Showdown. 

The Spartans were held scoreless against the Sabres on Saturday afternoon as they got off 20 shots. Patrick Toomey and Patrick Donnelly each led the Spartans with four shots on goal. Connor Nelson and the new addition, Nick Wieben were the other Spartans to record multiple shots. Alex Walsh was able to block four Sabres shots on the defensive end of the ice. 

In his second game with the Spartans, Erik Chaffe started the game and only played 22:51 giving up four goals while recording eight saves. Nick Meyering played the rest of the game in goal with 15 saves and giving up three goals. 

The Spartans will return to NCHA action on Friday, January 12 at 7:00 p.m. on the road at Concordia University (Wis.) for a two-game series at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
