SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team faced a tough #2-ranked and unbeaten College of St. Scholastica (CSS) team at the UW-Superior Showdown on Saturday. The Spartans were tied 2-2 late in the match before CSS scored early in the final period to grab the lead once again. UD gave up a power-play goal and an empty netter to end the night in a 2-5 loss.
UD compiled 22 shots and were led by the duo of
Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth and
Thomas Gazich who both ended with a team high three shots. There were 14 individuals who grabbed a shot in the loss.
Josh King scored a goal assisted by
Patrick Toomey and
Max Messier. Donnelly scored the second goal assited by
Jonathon Lush and
Ethan Lang. UD won 25 faceoffs and lost 35.
Patrick Toomey led as he won six and lost eight.
Erik Chaffe made his debut as a Spartan in goal for 58:18 and ended by facing 33 shots and allowing four goals against the top-ranked CSS.
The Spartans continue play on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 3:00 p.m. when the play Marian University at 3:00 p.m. at Siinto S Wessman Arena.
