Men's Basketball Pushes Past Aurora for Fourth Straight Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball picked up their fourth straight victory to open the season with a 76-70 over Aurora University. Jaylin McCants, Taydem Arguello, and Dylan Anderson all scored in double figures and outscored Aurora by eight in the second half after trailing by two at the half.

The Spartans started Taydem Arguello for the first time this afternoon and he delivered four threes in the first half which was a major boost on the offensive side of the ball. The first half Aurora got anything they wanted in the paint as all but seven of their 35 first half points versus the Spartans man-to-man defense. Right before half the Spartans coaching staff switched up to a zone defense and kept it into the second half and it paid off for the Spartans as Aurora had a difficult time scoring in the paint against the Spartans. In the second half, the Spartans were able to get big production from Dylan Anderson scoring 12 second half points after not taking a single shot attempt in the first half. The Spartans also flipped the script in points in the paint, getting a lot of good looks close to the rim in transition and in their offensive sets. The Spartans shot red hot from the field in the second half at 68.0% and 51.9% for the game.

Hear from head coach Robbie Sieverding
"It was nice to protect home court against Monmouth and Aurora who both presented different challenges for our team. Jaylin really played well both games and Taydem gave us a good lift against Aurora. We still have room to grow and improve and we will have a tough challenge on Tuesday here at home with Nebraska Wesleyan."

McCants led all scorers with 20 points (7-10) and shot 6-9 from the free throw line. Arguello finished the game with 16 points and Anderson capped his night off with 12 points. The Spartans won the points off turnovers battle by five points and lead by as many as nine points. There was seven lead changes and tied four times.

The Spartans move to 4-0 overall on the season.
