Spartans Blanked by Raiders On the Road

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team began their first conference road trip of the year as they traveled to Milwaukee School of Engineering, home of the Raiders. The Spartans would drop game one of the series as they lost 3-0. 

The Spartans would fall behind within the opening minute of the game as the Raiders scored on their fist shot of the night. Once the Spartans maintained possession, Max Messier and Thomas Gazich each attempted a shot but was saved the Raiders goalie. Before the end of the first period, the Raiders tacked on another goal as the Spartans trailed 2-0 heading into the break. 

During the second period, the Spartans were called for three penalties letting the Raiders go on the power play. The Spartans defense was stout as they prevented Raiders from scoring on the power play. Defenseman Langley Kruggel and Chris Beyer blocked multiple shots while the Spartans were short-handed. With five minutes remaining in the period, the Raiders scored their third and final goal of the game. 

In the final period of action the Spartans fired off nine shots but were unable to find the back of the net as the lost 3-0. On the night, the Spartans attempted 23 shots compared to the Raiders 31. Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth won 8 of the Spartans 21 faceoff wins. Goalie Dakota Meyers suffered the loss as he recorded 28 saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Spartans will close out the two game series against the Raiders tomorrow, Saturday November 18th inside the Kern Center. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
