Women's Hockey Fall To Marian on the Road

Fond du Lac, Wis. - Saturday afternoon the University of Dubuque women's hockey team was back in action for game two of the regular season series against the Sabres of Marian University. The Spartans trailed by one (2-1) halfway through the second period but were unable to take the lead as they fell 3-1.

The Sabres struck first on a power play at 8:32 in the first period. Five minutes later, Marian tacked on their second goal of the period as the Spartans trailed 2-0 through the first twenty minutes of action. Defensemen Lauren Jeffery attempted three of the 8 shots for the Spartans in the opening period.

During the second period, the Spartans were granted their first power play opportunity and took advantage as Cassidy Becia netted her third goal of the season off an assist by Sarah Parker. Marian would soon answer with their third and final goal of the game. Both teams were held scoreless through the third period as goalie Savannah Wuitschick turned away all 20 shots of the Sabres. 

On the day, the Spartans were 32-67 on face offs. Olivia Hodges collected 17 wins of her 33 face offs attempts. Wuitschick played all 60 minutes and tallied 51 saves in the loss.

The Spartans are now 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Spartans will have three weeks off before they return to the ice. The Spartans will remain on the road as they take on Aurora Univeristy on Friday, December 1. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
