FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team led 1-0 after the opening period on Saturday afternoon. The host Marian University Sabres rallied back to out score the Spartans 2-0 in the second to grab their first lead. UD added a goal in the third, but allowed three goals in the final period of play in a 2-5 road loss.
The Spartans scored first off a power-play at 16:08 of the opening period with
Patrick Toomey scoring off assist by
James Eng. UD's second goal of the day happened at 15:51 of the third period when
James Eng scored a short handed goal off an assist from
Max Erstad. The Spartans were 1/5 in power-plays and finished with three shots. The host Sabres were 2/8 and had seven shots.
Twenty Spartans saw action in the loss and ended the game with 20 shots by 11 different players.
Jonathon Lush led with four shots, trailed closely by
James Eng with three shots.
UD was 31-68 in faceoffs and were led by Toomey who was 8-18.
Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth was 8-12,
Thomas Gazich 6-13,
Nick Solema was 4-9, and
James Eng 4-12.
Dakota Meyer played 59:43 in goal and collected 33 saves (10 in 1st, 17 in 2nd, and 6 in 3rd). UD will continue their NCHA road schedule when they travel to face Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Kern Center in Milwaukee, Wis. The Spartans will play the second game of the weekend against MSOE on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4:00 p.m. before breaking for the Thanksgiving holiday.
