DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team returned back to Oyen Field for the first time in 18 days as they faced the Coe College Kohawks in their conference home opener. After a scoreless first half by both teams,
Gavin Wooldridge would net the lone goal of the game in the 60th minute to secure the 1-0 shutout win for the Spartans.
The Kohawks would have the shot advantage in the first 45 minutes as they out shot the Spartans 7-3 before the script would flip in the second half as the Spartans were able to get off six more shots than the Kohawks in the final half. The Spartans finished with 12 shots compared to 10 for the Kohawks. No shot was bigger on Wednesday night than Wooldridge's goal after a great pass from
Jos Van Hille through a defender and into the box in which Wooldridge was able to sneak past the Kohawk goalie.
Brandon Kaup finished with a game-high two shot on goals in three shot attempts. Eight other Spartans were able to get off at least one shot opportunity throughout the night. The game would be played very tight tonight as there was a total of 37 fouls called and six total yellow cards. Two by the Spartans and four by the Kohawks.
Christoffer Rastock got his first game in goal this season as he managed four saves in the full 90 minute game in which he produced a shutout victory. The Spartans recorded their second shutout of the season with the 1-0 victory.
The Spartans move to 4-6-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference play. With the 2-1 conference record, the Spartans sit third in the standings with five conference games left to be played this season.
