Women's Soccer Shutout NWU 2-0 in A-R-C Matchup on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa - On Saturday, the University of Dubuque Spartans women's soccer team was able to pick up an American Rivers Conference victory on Oyen Field as they shutout the Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) Prairie Wolves by a final of 2-0 on senior day where they congratulated five outstanding seniors for their dedication to the women's soccer program over the last four years.

Eight minutes into the game, the first goal for the Spartans would come with some help from the opposition as Samantha Scodeller would offer a corner kick into the box that would hit off an NWU to score an own goal for the Spartans. With the Spartans leading 1-0 throughout the first half the Spartans would have one more shot opportunity than NWU in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, the Spartans would pick up the pace offensively getting off nine shots and holding NWU to only two shots.

When the game felt like it could be heading towards a 1-0 decision off the own goal, the Spartans capitalized on a corner kick again, but this time Emma Kober sent the ball into the box that was received by Emerson Wilson who took a shot that hit off the right pipe and Olivia Roth was able to finish the job to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead with about five minutes remaining.

The Spartans were able to get off eight more shots than NWU throughout the game that included four more shot on goal opportunities. The Spartans dominated corner kicks with 10 and shutting NWU down to zero. Karissa Cruz recorded four saves in the shutout victory.

The Spartans move to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the A-R-C. The 3-1-1 record currently sits them with 10 points and tied for 3rd place in the conference standings.

Up Next
The Spartans will get a tough test on Wednesday, October 18 as they face currently #24 ranked Simpson College on Oyen Field with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. following the men's soccer game. Simpson lost to Loras College tonight, so they will more than likely fall out of the top 25 poll.
