LINCOLN, Neb. - (1/28/23) On Friday the University of Dubuque women's basketball team made the long six hour bus trip to the campus of Nebraska Wesleyan home of Prairiewolves for a matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans defensive pressure rattled the Prairiewolves, forcing 33 turnovers in rout to an 81-43 victory for the Spartans.
The Spartans started off fast as they capitalized off the Prairiewolves turnovers, jumping out to an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. To start the second, the Spartans used an impressive 20-0 run to extend their lead by 35 (38-5) halfway through the quarter.
Isabella Tierney,
Lauren Livingston, and
Makenzie Knapp each contributed a three during the run. The Spartans entered halftime leading 41-12.
In the third quarter, the Spartans tacked on another 19 points. Sophomore guard,
Makenzie Knapp scored seven of her 13 points in the third as the Spartans maintained control by a score of 60-28. Six minutes into the fourth quarter, the Spartans stretched out their biggest lead of the game to 45 (78-33). As the game came to an end the Spartans won 81-43.
All 15 Spartans saw action while 10 of them found the scorer's column. The Spartans had four players in double figures as
Isabella Tierney led the way with 16, followed by
Morgan Hawkins with 14, and 13 from
Lauren Livingston.
Makenzie Knapp recorded a new career high 13 points as she went 3-4 from downtown. The Spartans shot the lights out as they shot near 50% from the field (30-61) and 10-29 from beyond the arc (10-29). The full court press from the Spartans was a force to be reckoned with as the Prairiewolves coughed up the ball 33 times. The Spartans converted 41 points off turnovers and had 16 fast break points.
The Spartans now move to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in A-R-C play.

The Spartans will travel to Storm Lake, Iowa, Wednesday night to take on Buena Vista University Beavers. As of now the Spartans sit as the fourth seed in the conference. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. inside Siebens Fieldhouse.
