DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque #24-ranked Spartans wrestling team opened their home meet schedule on Saturday when they hosted #9-ranked Luther College Norse in Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans trailed early in the match 3-5 before
Jevontae Yarbrough collected a fall in 4:53 at 141 lbs. to give UD the edge 9-5. The Norse rallied and won the American Rivers Conference dual by a final score of 28-12.
Brady Koontz (133 lbs.) won a hard battle and captured the match 3-2 over the Norse Christian Chavez.
Tyler Thurston (197 lbs.) was the Spartans other victor. He won in sudden victory on a two point takedown early in the extra period.
Darryl Aiello (285 lbs.) lost a close match 3-2 after he faced Cullen Quick who is ranked #1 in the Lower Midwest Region for the Norse. The two sweated it out through three periods with neither wrestler willing to give up much with UD's Aiello attempting a takedown as time expired.
It doesn't get any easier for UD as they will travel across town in another A-R-C dual meet at #7 Loras College on Friday, Feb. 3 scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Spartans host the University of Dubuque Jim Fox Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
