STORM LAKE, Iowa - The #24-ranked University of Dubuque wrestling team finished one half the A-R-C Duals with a 2-1 record. The Spartans lost to #3 ranked Wartburg College 42-3, bounced back with a hard bought battle for the Central College Dutch 25-23, and beat the host Buena Vista University Beavers by a 41-9 margin.

UD's Brady Koontz made an impact and remains undefeated for the Spartans with a perfect 7-0 record at 125 lbs. since joining the team in January. He collected a slim 3-1 win over Wartburg's Adrian Rosas, collected a major decision over Rheiner Stahlbaum of Central, and beat BV's Brandon Foster 8-2. Jevontea Yarbrough (141 lbs.) enjoyed a fall over #15-ranked Pierre Baldwin of Central in 3:36, those extra points were crucial and helped UD with the win. Yarbrough and teammates Dylan Koontz (133 lbs.), Luke Radeke (157 lbs.),  all would finish the day 2-1.

"I love how our team continued to grow together as the duals progressed," UD Head Coach McGovern said. "The A-R-C dual meet atmosphere is really special and we developed as a team toward the later part of the day. The win over former #12 nationally ranked Central College was a team effort. Central is a solid team with ranked wrestlers. Getting the win was great, but I was equally impressed with the tactical adjustments and level of output we gave in each of the matches after the loss to Wartburg. We will need to continue to increase the technical adjustments and the output overall to beat a top ranked team like Wartburg. We will be working with our guys on those necessary adjustments prior the NCAA Lower Midwest Regionals and NCAA Division III National Championships."

The Spartans will return next week for their first home meet of the 2022-23 season when they will host the Luther College Norse on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:00 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center.
