ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team traveled south to face a tough Washington University Bears team who came into the contest with the Spartans undefeated at 4-0. The Bears would stand tall as they took down the Spartans in straight sets 16-25, 27-29, 22-25. 

The Spartans would start the first set struggling to attack as they would only go 6-31 (0.097) on attacks to fall behind in the opening set. The second set would be a back and forth battle as the set had to go into extra points, but the Bears would come away with the 27-29 victory to claim a 2-0 set lead. The Spartans would fight until the very end, but would lose set three by a close margin of 22-25 to lose 0-3 to the Bears. 

The Spartans would finish the three set match with an attacking percentage of .150 and total 35 kills. Emma Powell led all attackers with 15 kills. Darby Hawtrey and Grace Hintze each finished with nine and seven for the Spartans. Hintze would lead the team in aces (3) and blocks (3) and Maegan Brylski had a team-high 12 assists to her attackers.

The Spartans will continue this weekend as they travel to Lexington, Ky. for the Transylvania University Tournament where they will play four games in two days.
