Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Spartans Late Comeback Ends in Draw

APPLETON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team traveled to face Lawrence University on Sunday in their third game in four days. Coming into the weekend, the Spartans posted a 2-0 record and were looking to add another win on the early season. After trailing 2-0 in the opening 45 minutes, the Spartans would fight their way back to tie the game 2-2 for a draw.

All would be quiet for the Spartans and Lawrence as they were both held scoreless through the first 23 minutes of action. Lawrence would then find the back of the net to take the early lead in the game. They would eventually follow up with another goal two minutes later to lead at the halftime break 2-0. The Spartans came out of the halftime break and made quick work to find a goal as Josh Krenger shot passed the goalie in the 48th minute for his second goal on the season to cut the deficit in half 2-1. The Spartans would get a little bit of luck in the late stages of the game as Lucas Von Braun would get a penalty kick opportunity in the 83rd minute and the Senior delivered as he forced the game into a 2-2 draw. With the game being non-conference, the game does not go to overtime, therefore the draw.

The Spartans were held to only five shots in the first half before finishing the game with 21 shots and 10 of them on target. The Spartans were given nine corner kick chances compared to only two for Lawrence. Von Braun, Jakub Youngstrom, and Gavin Wooldridge led the Spartans with two shots on goal each. Matt Marchiori was in goal for the full 90 minutes and saved four shots while giving up two goals.
