DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team held their home opener on Thursday night against the Cornell College Rams inside Stoltz Sports Center. The first of four games in the first three days of the 2022 season didn't go the Spartans way as they would fall in straight sets, 20-25, 18-25, 24-26.
Super senior,
Darby Hawtrey returned for another year with the Spartans and would open up the season with nine kills on 24 attacks (.250).
Emma Powell collected nine kills in the contest. Senior
Kaylynn Murray would assist her attackers 25 times throughout the three sets.
Alexis Adkins recorded two blocks and
Katie Wright collected nine digs. Twelve Spartans saw action in the loss.
As a team the Spartans had a total of 31 kills, four aces, three blocks, 27 assists, and collected 48 digs from opposing attackers.

The Spartans will host the UD River City Classic beginning Friday against North Central at 6:00 p.m. The Spartans will continue the tournament on Saturday with games at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Participating teams: University of Dubuque, Knox College, North Central College, and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
