Men's Soccer Hold Fighting Scots Scoreless in Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - First year head coach, Scott Lennon notched his first win at the University of Dubuque on Thursday night under the lights at Oyen Field. The Spartans opened up the season against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots in non-conference action where the Spartans would shut out the Fighting Scots by a final score of 3-0.

Emil Josefsson would open up his first collegiate game as a Spartan by scoring the first goal of the 2022 season at the 5:14 mark, which would ultimately be the game winning goal. Stephan Maltsev provided a spark off the bench as he scored in the 36th minute to go into the half with a 2-0 lead. Entering the second period, senior Lucas Von Braun, took charge and scored in the 51st minute off an assist from Emil Josefsson. Goalkeeper Christoffer Rastock earned the shutout win as the Spartans did not allow a shot until late in the second period. Micah Falk came in relief and recorded the only save in the game for the Spartans. An overall strong performance by the Spartans as they were on the attack most of the night talling 16 shots (five on goal) while Monmouth was held to two shots. The Spartans were given 11 corner kicks throughout the game and held the Fighting Scots to only three in 90 minutes of action.
