NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team opened their 2022-23 campaign in Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans picked ninth in the American River Conference coaches pre-season poll would capture a pair of wins in each of the two matches.

The Spartans opened with a 2-7 loss to St. Ambrose University. Hayden Warner collected the victory at #1 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 as teammate Alyssa Stevenson would be pushed to a third set tie break at #2 singles, winning 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.

UD lost 2-7 to the host North Central College in the nightcap. The Spartans would capture the #2 and #4 singles against the Cardinals. Stevenson once again would battle to a third set and she would capture her second individual victory in a 6-1, 5-7, 10-1 finish. At #4 singles, the Spartans Tatiana Ptaszek would win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

"Congratulations to Alyssa for going 2-0 in singles play," said head coach Dishon Deering. "She fought hard to capture the third sets and showed her leadership today. I also want to congratulate Hayden Warner and Tatiana Ptaszek who both earned their first collegiate victories."

The Spartans will continue their season next week when they will host the Wartburg College Knights in the A-R-C opener on Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. on the Frank Farber Tennis Courts.
