STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team looking to slow down the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) leading Buena Vista University Beavers would suffer a sweep in their final league series on Sunday, May 1. Friday night UD lost by a 4-5 mark and they would once again jump out to an early lead before the host Beavers would rally to capture game one of the doubleheader 3-7. In game two, BV would capture the early lead as the Spartans rally fell short by a 5-6 margin.
The Spartans scored three runs off seven hits and committed an error, the Beavers scored seven runs off 10 hits with an error in the opener. In game two, UD scored five runs with 14 hits and had non errors while BVU scored six runs off 13 hits with an error. UD falls to 19-17 overall and 11-13 in A-R-C play.
This season the Spartans are hitting .290 as a team, have an on base percentage of .388 and a fielding percentage of .957. Leading the offense is
Mitch Pomeroy who has a batting average of .355, a slugging % of .553, and an on-base % of .409. He has four homruns, four triples and eight doubles in 141 at bats. The pitching staff have throw 313.1 innings and have a team ERA of 4.83. They have 262 strike outs and have walked 107 batters while holding their opponents to a .283 batting average.

The 2022 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Baseball AQ Tournament begins on Thursday, May 12th with five games scheduled. The majority of the tournament will take place at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. However, the opening round game between the No.4 and No.5 seeds will take place at Daniels Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.Â

The winner of the double-elimination tournament receives the American Rivers Conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships. The Regional round takes place May 19-22 followed by the 16-team Super Regional round the following weekend. Eight teams will emerge from the Super Regional round to line up at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships June 3-8. The American Rivers Conference and the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Class A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins), will host the Division III College World Series in 2022.
