INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team scored 23 runs on Wednesday to earn a split against the Simpson College Storm, losing game one 12-13 and taking game two 11-1 in six innings.
UD scored 12 runs in 11 hits while committing three errors, Simpson scored 13 runs after 18 hits while committing six errors. In game two the Spartans finished with 11 runs in 12 hits and three errors, the Storm scored one and was held to two hits with one error.
The Spartans bats were hot from the first at bat. UD showcased their power when leadoff
Lauren Brown homered to right field to give UD a quick 1-0 lead. Three batters later
Emily Bloomer homered to left center for two RBI's. The Storm replaced the pitcher and two batters later
Cayla Cavanagh solo homered to left center. UD would add another homerun for Brown in her next at bat in the second inning when she sent the ball deep over the left field fence.

Rachel Trader led offense with 3-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI's. Brown went 2-2 at the plate and scored five runs with three walks. Bloomer was 2-3 with a team high four RBI's and Cavanagh was 2-5 with two RBI's.
Madeleine Belluomini started on the mound and went 2.1 innings allowing six earned runs with a strike out. Kaylee Sebo took the loss after tossing 3.2 innings and allowing four earned runs with two strike outs.
In game two it was all Spartans after scoring in five out of six innings. UD's Wolff earned her eighth win of the season after holding the hosts to just two hits, one run and no earned runs .She fanned seven batters and walked three.
UD's power hitters would collect three more home runs. Bloomer went 4-4 at the plate with a lone homerun in the sixth and a game high three RBI's. Cavanagh was 2-3 with two RBI's with a home run to right field in the fifth and
Rachel Trader was 2-4 with two RBI's which included a homerun to left center in the sixth.
The Spartans continue on Saturday April 9 when they host the Central College Dutch at 1 p.m.
