CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team got back on track Wednesday afternoon after an impressive seven run, seventh inning to defeat the Coe College Kohawks 11-5 in one nine inning game at Mt. Mercy University which ended up being the host site for today's game. Weather has not been kind to the Spartan baseball team as many games have been re-scheduled with the cold and rainy weather the past few weeks that ultimately moved the game to today.
Coming into today's contest with the Kohawks, the Spartans were on a five game skid and looking to finally break through and get back on track in conference play. The Spartans got on the board early with a 3-0 lead through two innings of play. The Kohawks then made a run in the 6th inning as they grabbed a 5-3 lead. The Kohawk lead would be brief as the Spartans would answer with a seven run seventh inning to blow the game open 10-5 before adding another insurance run in the ninth to beat the Kohawks 11-5.
Aiden Sullivan got the start on the mound for the Spartans going 5 2/3 innings facing 23 batters allowing five runs on six hits and striking out four.
Derek Hardin finished the rest of the game allowing only three hits and zero runs.
Kyle Radi batted six times and finished 4-6 with four singles and two RBI's.
Hayden Iacolucci finished 3-5 with two singles and a double including one RBI. The Spartans totaled 15 hits in the game with no errors.
The Spartans now move to 12-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
