DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team jumped out to a quick lead on Sunday afternoon by putting three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 4-3 final Spartan victory.
UD scored four runs with nine hits while committing two errors, Nebraska Wesleyan University scored three runs off seven hits and made one error. Two of their runs happened at the top of the ninth with a two run homerun.
Four Spartans finished with two hits on the day. Leadoff
Jake Cekander went 2-4 with a run scored.
Kellen Mitchell 2-3 with a run scored,
Parker Allen was 2-4 with a run scored and two RBi's.
Max Snowden went 2-3. Both teams left six runners on base and the Spartans turned two double plays. Starting pitcher
Barrett Bell collected the win after four innings allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts.
Aidan Elfering came in for relief and would collect a save with five innings and four strikeouts. The two pitchers did not allow a walk on Sunday.
The Spartans travel this week for a final A-R-C three game series at Buena Vista University. A doubleheader on Friday, April 29, 2022 begins at 3:30 p.m. with second game scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday will be a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
The American Rivers Conference tournament begins on May 12, 13, 14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
