PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team rounded out their three game series with the Central College Dutch this afternoon where they won two, seven inning games after dominating the Dutch 20-6 in game one and 13-2 in game two. The Spartans sweep the season series with the Dutch after winning on Friday afternoon as well by a score of 5-4.
Game 1
Capped off by a
Cole DeStefanis 3-run homerun, the Spartans tallied 20 runs on 16 hits to secure the game one victory over the Dutch in seven innings.
Shaun Logan got the win on the mound for the Spartans as he went 4.0 innings of seven hit, four run baseball and struck out five batters.
Hayden Iacolucci went 3-4 today with two singles and a double. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
Mitch Pomeroy went 3-6 at the plate with three singles bringing in four runs.
Kyle Radi went 3-4 with a single, double and a third inning blast over the fence. The Spartans had 36 at bats and saw 13 walks and stranded 15 on the bases.
Game 2
The Spartans continued their domination into game two where the Spartans had 13 runs on 15 hits and five walks. The Spartans scored the first 13 runs of the game through six innings before the Dutch scored two in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the 10 run rule applied and the game ended after seven innings. Kellen Mitchell went 3-5 at the plate including a homerun in the fifth inning, a single, and a double.
Colton Pfeifer also went 3-5 and
Parker Allen went 2-3 at the plate.
Jake Cekander got the nod to start on the mound in game two as he pitched all seven innings for the Spartans giving up two runs while allowing four hits and striking out six.
The Spartans move to 17-11 on the season and fourth in the conference standings at 9-7.

The Spartans will face the Loras College Duhawks in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19 with the first game starting at 3:30 p.m. The match-up between cross-town rivals will resume a three game series with the first being played last Tuesday in which the Spartans won the opener 7-1 at Dan W. Runkle Field.
