LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque softball team have been bitten by splits in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action and it continued on Easter weekend. UD lost the opener 0-8 in six innings, would find their offense in the second with a 6-3 victory over the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiwolves.
The Spartans have five consecutive splits in A-R-C play, all five splits UD has lost the opener and rebounded to capture game two. In game one, UD scored no runs off three hits and committed three errors as the host Prairiewolves scored eight runs off seven hits and played errorless.
Kayla Breunig took the loss after 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three.
In game two, the Spartans opened quickly and scored two runs in the first.
Cayla Cavanagh doubled to left field and grabbed two RBI's.

Lauren Brown would also scamper home. The Spartans would finish the afternoon with three doubles by
Emily Bloomer, Cayla Cavanagh, and Dariann Diorio.In the fourth, Lauren Brown singled, advanced to second, advanced to third on the throw, and earned two RBI's after Callie Dutton and Dariann Diorio would score on the play with UD grabbing a 4-2 lead. The Spartans added another run in the fifth and seventh innings and a fine defensive effort held the hosts scoreless for five innings before allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh.
A trio of Spartans would all finish with two hits each:
Emily Bloomer (2-4),
Callie Dutton (2-4), and
Alyanna Martinez (2-3).
Megan Wolff threw a complete game allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Spartans have a busy week ahead with A-R-C doubleheaders at home on Tuesday vs. Luther College, Wednesday vs. Coe College, and on Saturday vs. Loras College. April weather has not been very kind for outdoor sports with the rest of the spring season finishing up at UW-Platteville on April 26 with a doubleheader, April 28 vs. Augustana College, and on May 2 at UW-La Crosse.
