DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team would finally capture a sweep in American Rivers Conference action when they captured game one by a 15-7 score in five innings. The Spartans would collect a sweep in dramatic fashion in game two by a 2-1 final. The Spartans earned win #19 and improved to 7-5 in American Rivers Conference action.
UD scored 15 runs in the opener off 13 hits with no errors. Luther ended with seven runs in 11 hits, but committed four errors. The Norse grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and would be held scoreless the next three innings. They would slice into the Spartans 11-2 lead at the top of the fifth after a grand slam homerun by Emily Versnick. Leading 11-7, UD would extend the lead by scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest early in 1 15-7 final.
Five Spartans would finish with two hits and four would collect two RBI's.
Callie Dutton led in RBI's with three after a three run homerun in the bottom of the second inning. Eight Spartans collected hits in the win. Kayle Breunig earned the five inning victory, allowed seven earned runs, and walked just two.
A pitchers dual was showcased in the second game of the doubleheader. UD scored a run in the fourth inning.

Madyson Dwight scored for an Origer RBI. Luther knotted the game at 1-1 when Abby Spore solo homered in the top of the sixth. UD re-captured the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer by Cayla Cavanaugh. UD would shut down the Norse in the top of the seventh with a fly out to right field, a strike out looking, and a fly out to right field.
UD's offense was led by
Rachel Trader who went 2-3 at the plate and Cavanagh who went 2-3 with the game winning RBI. The Spartans ended game two with two runs off seven hits and committed one error.
The Spartans have postponed Wednesday's doubleheader vs. Coe College and will play on Thursday, April 21 beginning at 2 p.m. in Dubuque.
