PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team jumped out to a quick lead on Good Friday with a run in the opening inning. The two teams would battle back and forth before the Spartans scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Central College Dutch were held scoreless the final two innings for a Spartan American Rivers Conference victory.
UD collected five runs off 10 hits and played errorless as the Dutch scored four runs off 10 hits and committed a pair of errors.
Hayden Iacolucci at leadoff showed the way all day by going 4-4 at the plate and scoring twice. He was one of five Spartans with a double in the win. Joining him were:
Jake Cekander,
Kellen Mitchell,
Colton Pfeifer, and
Joe Unger.
Parker Allen went 2-4 and Mitchell, Cekander, Pfeifer, and
Cole DeStefanis all grabbed an RBI.
Edward Rosas started and went four innings, allowed just one earned run with four strikeouts.
Seth Crandall came in for relief and earned the win after tossing three innings and allowing five hits.
Derek Hardin earned the save by finishing the final two scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
The two teams continue the series on Saturday, April 16 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
