DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team hosted the Concordia University (Wis.) Falcons at Oyen Field on Wednesday afternoon and would hold off a late comeback attempt by the Falcons to secure their first win of the season to move to 1-3 overall this season. 

The Spartans were able to be the aggressor from the first whistle and would mount a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. Within the first couple minutes of the second quarter, Giovanni Silva would score an unassisted goal to stretch the Spartan lead to 3-0 before the Falcons would answer with their first goal of the game no more than three minutes later. The Spartans would take the 3-1 lead at the break. The scoring would ramp up in the second half as the Spartans would record three more goals within the first seven minutes of the third to lead 6-1 midway through the third quarter. The Falcons would not go away quietly as they would get the score to 7-5 with only 6:09 left in the game. The Spartans were able to calm the run by the Falcons and score two more goals to secure their first victory of the season, 9-5. 

Giovanni Silva had a successful outing with four goals on six shots and grabbed four ground balls. Nikolas Wortman would win 11-16 face offs and collected a team high five ground balls. The Spartans as a team would total 20 shots on goal on 31 shots. They would also pick up 31 ground balls throughout the game. Ryan Gartner picked up his first win in goal for the Spartans with 16 saves and giving up the five goals.
