DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team dropped the American Rivers Conference doubleheader to the Coe College Kohawks on Tuesday, losing game one by a score of 7-8 and game two by a 1-8 margin.
In the opener, UD scored seven runs in nine hits while committing two errors. The Kohawks scored eight runs in 10 hits and committed two errors. The Spartans had a chance in the bottom of the eighth when trailing by a run. A fielders choice with two on and one out, UD would be thrown out at home by the shortstop. UD would end the inning with a ground out and both squads went scoreless in the final inning.
Shaun Logan started and would go five innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Barrett Bell came in for relief and went three innings and allowed just one earned run.
Noah Zoglman pitched the final scoreless inning. Three Spartans ended the opener with two hits each.
Parker Allen was 2-3,
Joe Unger 2-4, and
Mitch Pomeroy was 2-5.
Jake Cekander led with two RBI's.
In game two, UD scored one run off four hits and committed one error in the loss. Coe scored eight runs off eight hits and committed one error. Both teams would finish the contest with nine strike outs each.
Jake Cekander got the start and went 4.2 innings with five strikeouts.
Kyle Radi led the offense by going 2-3 at the plate.
The Spartans continue A-R-C action on Friday when they host the Luther College Norse at 3 p.m. on Dan. W. Runkle Baseball Field. The two teams will continue on Saturday, April 1 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Weather may be a factor on Saturday so please check website for any date or time changes.
