Baseball Completes Sweep of Storm With Double Header Victories

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team finished up their season series with the Simpson College Storm on this sunny, but cold afternoon. The Spartans took game one on Friday by a final score of 8-7 winning on a walk-off error. Today the Spartans captured two more victories 6-4 and 11-9 to complete the series sweep of the Storm.

Game 1
In game one, Edward Rosas (2-0) started on the mound and went six innings with five hits given up including two home runs. He struck out seven batters and walked one. Rosas got the win on the mound and Aidan Sullivan came in relief for the final three innings to pick up his first save on the season. At times throughout the game hits were hard to come by as the Spartans only collected five in the game. The Spartans found themselves trailing going into the sixth inning, but after back-to-back wild pitches by the Storm the Spartans were able to take the lead 4-3 and then tack on two more runs in the seventh inning off a Joe Unger double to left-center to bring in Brandon Watkins and Cole DeStefanis to seal the win for the Spartans.

Game 2
Game two turned out to be the opposite of the first game as hits and runs were scored in bunches. Aidan Elfering got the nod to start game two of the double header and he would only manage to go three innings after giving up seven hits and seven runs (six earned). The Spartans found themselves staring at a 7-3 deficit after the top of the fourth inning, before scoring three runs to inch closer 7-6 after four innings. In the sixth, the Storm struggled when their shortstop committed an error throwing to first and UD's Jake Cekander scored to tie the game at 7-7. Colton Pfeifer, Patrick Rafferty, and Joe Unger would each double the next three hits to go up 11-7. Storm tried to make a late rally in the top of the ninth with bases loaded down two runs, but Shaun Logan would strike out the final batter and record his first save of the season.

The Spartans complete the sweep of the Storm and move to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the A-R-C.

UP NEXT
