Killburg's Career Night Helps Propel Spartans To Home Victory Over Kohawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team posted a commanding 78-58 win over the Coe College Kohawks inside Stoltz Sports Center, snapping the Kohawks six-game winning streak. The Spartans now move to 16-6 overall and 11-2 in conference play and find themselves in good position for the #1 seed in the conference tournament with only three regular season games remaining. 

The first half consisted of the Spartans on the offensive attack where point guard Sam Kilburg would have a sensational first half, knocking down 9-10 field goals and 5-5 from beyond the arc for 23 first half points. Kilburg would help the Spartans ride into the half with a 47-30 lead. As a team, the Spartans would shoot a sizzling 19-32 (59.4%) from the field and 7-11 (63.6%) from beyond the arc in the first half. The Spartans would cool off a bit shooting in the second half, but would build their greatest lead to 28 points with 14:42 remaining in the game and ultimately cruise to a dominating 20 point win, 78-58. 

Sam Kilburg's career night ended with 28 points, finishing 11-12 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from beyond the arc. Peter Ragen would hit double figures with 14 and Jaylin McCants did as well with 11 points and also added eight rebounds. Brock Simon had a team-high five assists in the win.

The Spartans will hit the road for their next two games starting this Saturday, February 12 at Simpson College with tip-off at 4:00 p.m. The Spartans will then have their second game against their cross-town rivals Loras College on February 16 at 7:30 p.m. Following the two games on the road, the Spartans will finish the regular season at home against the Luther College Norse a 4:00 p.m. 

A-R-C Standings
The Spartans currently sit on top of the conference standings with a conference record of 11-2 and sit two games ahead of Wartburg College (9-4) and 2.5 games ahead of both Coe College (9-5) and Buena Vista University (9-5). With a victory on Saturday against Simpson College, the Spartans will have claimed at least a share of the American Rivers Conference regular season championship.
