DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team enjoyed their last regular season game with a Senior Day victory over the Luther College Norse 85-61. The Spartans finished the regular season on a five game winning streak and having won 13 of their last 14 games. The Spartans also finished the American Rivers Conference schedule at 14-2 and never lost a conference road game in over two years. Claiming the #1 seed in the A-R-C tournament last Saturday at Simpson College, the Spartans will be looking towards next week as they look to add more hardware to the 2021-2022 season by winning the conference tournament championship and earning an automatic bid into the 2022 Division III NCAA Tournament.Â
The Spartans would grab the 1st half lead off a
Brock Simon layup and would never give up the lead again as the Spartans shot the ball exceptionally well in the first half to build their lead to a 49-21 lead at the halftime break. The Spartans knocked down a sizzling 8-11 (72.7%) from the 3-point line in the first half to go along with 9-12 (75%) from the free throw line. In the second half, the Spartans were able to build their biggest lead of the game at 31 with 6:03 left in the game before both teams would sub in their benches and the Spartans would walk away with a comfortable win 85-61.Â
Keegan Zimmerman would get hot from beyond the arc in the second half where he would go 4-5 and knocking down all four 3-pointers within three minutes of game time. He would end the game as the leading scorer for the Spartans with 14 points.
Levi Scheuermann collected 12 points in the win.Â
Peter Ragen, the lone senior, would end his regular season career with a 10 point performance.
Sam Kilburg collected a game high eight assists. The Spartans bench would be a key contributor in the win as they would score 43 points. The Spartans were very successful off Norse turnovers as they scored 33 points compared to only six points for the Norse.Â

The 2022 American Rivers Conference tournament will get underway Tuesday night, but the Spartans will have a bye as the #1 seed. They will await the winner of #4 Wartburg College vs #5 Loras College in Waverly, Iowa on Tuesday night. The Spartans will take on the winner inside Stoltz Sports Center on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.Â
