DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season at home and ended the evening with a 86-57 win over Marian University Sabres in Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court.
UD played 17 Spartans in the contest and 12 of them would finish the night in the scoring column.
Tabria Thomas led a quartet of Spartans in double digit scoring with 14 points.
Morgan Hawkins and
Maddie Monge both finished with 11 points and
Isabella Tierney chipped in 10. Hawkins led rebounding with nine and Thomas collected eight. Monge found the open shooter for a team leading six assists.
Kathleen Mathias grabbed five steals as the Spartans forced the Sabres into committing 27 turnovers in the loss.
UD sank 31-73 shot attempts from the field (42.5%), the Spartans made 11-32 three point attempts (34.4%), and were 13-22 free throw attempts (58.1%). UD led by as much as 31 points and held the lead for 35:23 of the game. The Spartans scored 34 points in the paint, and scored 24 points off second chance opportunities. UD 1-0 overall will host Eureka College on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6:00 p.m.
