DUBUQUE, Iowa - There was no holiday slowdown for the University of Dubuque women's basketball team, who took to Jon Davison Court on Saturday afternoon. UD held the visiting Cornell College Rams to single digit scoring in three out of four quarters in a 71-36 route in Stoltz Sports Center.
The Spartans jumped out to a quick 19-12 lead after the opening quarter and stretched that into a 37-19 halftime margin. UD's defense would hold the Rams to eight points in the third quarter and nine points in the final 10 minutes.The Spartans went to the bench often and the fans in attendance on Thanksgiving weekend witnessed 17 Spartans collecting playing time and 12 scored in the win. UD's bench out scored the Rams bench 33-25 and out rebounded them 41-26. The Spartans scored 40 of their points in the paint and scored 25 points off the Rams mistakes.
Morgan Hawkins led UD with 13 points and six rebounds.
Katelyn Esser came off the bench to finish with 12 points after 5-6 shooting from the field.
Tabria Thomas added 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Kathleen Mathias led rebounding with nine and dished out four assists.
Mia Miller led with five assists and had eight points.
UD (3-4 overall, 0-1 in A-R-C) will return to American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when they host the Buena Vista University Beavers at 5:30 pm.
