DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team began their postseason quest in the American Rivers Conference Tournament as the #4 seed. The Spartans would get a match-up with the #5 seed Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) Prairiewolves inside Stoltz Sports Center where the Spartans would attack the best they have all season and complete the clean sweep of the Prairiewolves 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17).
In the opening set, the Spartans and NWU would battle back-and-forth early before the Spartans trailed 9-11.
Emma Powell would then record a kill capping off a 5-0 run to lead 16-12. The Spartans had their biggest lead in the set at 24-18 before
Alexis Bedier ended the set with a kill to give the Spartans the set win. The Spartans would hit .419% in the set which is one of the best hitting percentages in a set all season.
The second set would be knotted early at 7-7 before the Spartans used a 4-0 run to lead 11-7 forcing NWU to call a timeout. Out of the timeout the Spartans would continue attacking as they would build their lead to 20-13 forcing yet another NWU timeout trailing by seven. The Spartans would lead by as much as 22-13 before settling for the 25-16 set victory. The Spartans would hit even better than the first set with an attacking percentage of .472% which is a season high.
The Spartans would begin the third set trailing 5-8. Much like the first two sets, the Spartans would use another run of 7-0 to gain a 12-8 advantage. The Spartans would surge ahead by seven at 19-12 and ultimately
Ashlee Adler finished off the Prairiewolves with a kill and sent the Spartans to the semifinal round of the conference tournament.
Powell led all attackers with 11 kills.
Darby Hawtrey and Bedier added 10 followed by eight kills from
Payton Uptagraft and Adler. The Spartans finished three sets with an attacking percentage of .355% and totaled 49 kills. Assists were split almost evenly with 19 from
Maegan Brylski and 18 from
Kaylynn Murray.
