CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team continued their season into the new year by traveling to face off against a very good Coe College Kohawk team who posted an 11-2 record before tonight's tip. The Spartans were able to spoil the party and use a 17-0 second half run to leave with the 71-63 victory to improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in American Rivers Conference play. 

In the first half, the Spartans were able to jump out to a 20-11 lead halfway through the first, before the Kohawks would finish the last nine minutes of play on a 25-9 run to take a 36-29 lead at the half. In the second half, the Kohawks were able to expand their lead to 13 at 49-36 before an incredible 17-0 run by the Spartans kick started them out into the lead 53-49. The Spartans never trailed again and would hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. 

The Spartans shot 25-55 (45.5%) from the field in the victory. The Spartans had four in double figures tonight with Sam Kilburg being the highest scoring Spartan with 15 points. Brock Simon and Peter Ragen each added 12 and Jaylin McCants dropped 11. The Spartans bench contributed 21 points compared to only six points from the Kohawk bench. 

The Spartans travel to Wisconsin Dells this Saturday, January, 8 to face the Finlandia Lions (Mich.) with tip-off scheduled at 12:00 p.m. in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The Spartans will then return to A-R-C action on Wednesday, January 12 when they host the Loras College Duhawks at 7:30 p.m.
