DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team fell behind in the couple of minutes of play on Tuesday night to the feisty Elmhust University Blue Jays. The goal woke up the Spartans who stepped up their game and They would score twice in the first half to claim a slim 2-1 halftime advantage. UD added another to extend their lead 3-1 at 59:07 and played a tight defensive effort to capture their second consecutive win in a row.
The Spartans finished with 20 shots and 11 on goal.
Eloi Niyibizi led with six shots followed closely by
Emil Windahl who had four shots.
Joel Skog-Johansson scored the first goal unassisted when a ball kicked from about 30 yards out caught the Blue Jays goalie on a misplayed ball and it slowly rolled through and into the net.
The player of the night came off the bench and played just 34 minutes.
Draek Littler made the most of his time and scored twice - one goal just prior to halftime at 44:09 off an assist by
Alessandro Corazzina and his second of the evening at 59:07 off assist by
Roody Joinvil.
Matt Marchiori made the most of his start at goal keeper and earned four saves in his 90 minutes in goal.
The Spartans (5-3-1 overall, 1-0 in A-R-C) return to American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 2 on Oyen Field against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves (3-4-1 overall, 0-1 in A-R-C) at 3:30 p.m.
