Game Recap: Baseball |

Spartans and Storm Split for Second Straight Day

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The UD and Simpson baseball teams split for the second straight day with Simpson grabbing game one and UD taking game two.

Game One
The first game of Saturday morning began much of the same way that game one on Friday did with the pitchers controlling the game. After Simpson got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single, the UD's Colton Pfeifer would respond with a RBI single of his own to pull the Spartans even at 1-1.

The Storm would get another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Spartans in a 2-1 hole with three outs to work with. UD would not be fazed, getting runners to second and third after a walk, single and wild pitch with only one out. Just needing to make contact, Kyle Radi did so, delivering a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at two all. However, Simpson would strand the other Spartan runner before scoring the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning to take game one for the second straight day.

UD had four different hitters have one hit in the first game of the doubleheader. Anthony Scanlon picked up a quality start after going six innings and allowing just two runs, only one of which was earned. Shaun Logan picked up the tough luck loss for the second straight day.

Game Two
Day one trends continued to carry over to game two in the second game of Saturday's double dip, with the Spartans breaking out to an early lead. Jake Cekander began the scoring with an RBI single down the right field line for a 1-0 lead in the second. UD would get another run in the second, this time by the unconventional way of a dropped third strike allowing Patrick Rafferty to skirt home from third home for a 2-0 lead.

Max Snowden would double the UD lead in the fourth, roping a double to bring home Cekander and Rafferty. Simpson would score their first run in the fifth but never really threaten the Spartans lead and UD would tack on one more in ninth for good measure with a Jordan Goldstein RBI single to earn the series split with a 5-1 win in game two.

Edward Rosas moved to 4-0 on the year after throwing five innings of one run ball. Jordan Goldstein and Jake Cekander would both deliver two hits and one RBI each to lead the UD offense.
