LISLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque softball team was looking for their fourth win in a row, but gave up the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to lost to the Benedictine University Eagles 1-2 on Monday afternoon.
UD scored one run off seven hits while committing two errors and the host Eagles garnered two runs off four hits and played errorless.
Nicolette Evans faced 24 batters and allowed just one earned run after four hits with a pair of strikeouts. A pair of Spartans finished the afternoon with two hits each.
Callie Dutton went 2-2 with the only RBI of the day on a single to right field, scoring
Alyanna Martinez who doubled to left field. Designated player
Rachel Trader went 2-3 at the plate. UD would leave six runners on base in the loss.
The Spartans (21-13 overall, 10-11 in A-R-C) continue play on Tuesday, May 4 against the Rockford University Regents in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. UD will return to American Rivers Conference play on Friday, May 7 against the Simpson College Storm in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. The two teams will continue the series for a third game on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
