Lacrosse Closes Season with Loss at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team closed the 2021 season on Friday night, falling in the season finale at Carthage, 14-3.

Like they have many times this season, UD struck first with a Diego Roman goal just under five minutes in for the first goal of the game. In a slow tempoed first quarter, the second goal of the game would not come until there was 3:20 left in the first quarter with Carthage getting their first goal. Carthage would sneak in a goal with nine seconds left in the opening quarter to grab the lead and start pulling away from there.

UD's Zach Schmitt would break Carthage's five unanswered goals with 9:39 left in the second quarter to make it 5-2. The Spartans were only able to find the back of the net one more time off the stick of Will Robinson in the early minutes of the third quarter before Carthage would score the final seven goals of the game.

Ryan Gartner played the entire game in goal for UD, recording 14 saves in the process.

The Spartans close the season with a 5-9 record overall and 1-5 in a difficult CCIW. In 2022, the Spartans will shift to the Midwest Lacrosse Conference

Senior Tanner Weis caps his career as UD's all-time leading points scorer, doing so with 55 points during his senior campaign.
