UD Sends 11 Seniors Out on High Note

DUBUQUE, Iowa - With no American Rivers Conference Tournament during this spring soccer season, the UD women's soccer team concluded the spring season in style, getting a 4-0 road win at Coe College behind a hat trick from Brooke Brodzinski

UD controlled all 90 minutes on a chilly Wednesday night and Brooke Brodzinski was the first to strike in the 22nd minute off an assist from Isabelle Robinson. All six of UD's first half shots went on net but Coe was able to save the other five to keep it at 1-0 through one half of play.

The Spartans would not waste much time in the second half to extend their lead, in the 53rd minute, Meghan Moorman would find Brodzinski, who would convert yet again. The Spartan attack would continue, as they fired 17 second half shots but in the 70th minute they would receive some help from the Kohawks. After a penalty in the box, Brodzinski would cap the hat trick, converting on the penalty kick to push the lead to 3-0 and all but sealing the victory.

With time winding down on the season and their careers, a senior combination would put a bow on the game. In the 88th minute, Ellory Barnette delivered her first assist of the season to Isabelle Robinson for her second goal of the season.

This was the second time this season that Brodzinski has scored at least three goals, she also scored four goals in a win at Nebraska Wesleyan. She finishes the spring season with 13 goals, the most in the American Rivers Conference

The Spartans would outshoot the Kohawks by a staggering 23-1. That did not allow for much action for senior goalie Victoria Roethler but it would give her, her fifth shutout of the season.

The Spartans finish the season with a 6-3-1 record overall and 4-3-1 in conference play and will await the conclusion of the rest of the conference schedule on Saturday to determine their place in the final conference standings.
