PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team battled the Central College Dutch to a pair of single run losses on Saturday. UD lost game one by a 0-1 score and 2-3 in game two. The Spartans were bitten by an error which allowed the winning run in game one and an error in game two would also prove costly as the Dutch rallied from an 0-2 deficit to score three runs in the fourth inning to take the sweep on Saturday.
UD was held scoreless in the opener after collecting five hits (all singles) and committing one error.
Rachel Trader lead the offense after a 3-3 plate appearance.
Nicolette Evans suffered the loss despite not giving up an earned run. In the second game, the Spartans took the early lead in the first inning after scoring two runs on two hits and left two on base.
Lauren Brown would be the only extra base hit with a double in the top of the sixth inning.
Lexi Schmidt suffered the loss after four hits and one earned run with
one strike out.
The Spartans continue the series on Sunday, April 18 with varsity game and a JV game beginning at noon.
