Men's Soccer Blows Past Beavers

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team moved their unbeaten streak to six games in a row in dominating fashion, scoring six second half goals on their way to an 8-0 victory.

Freshman Darren Gray got the scoring started early on Senior Day, corralling a Buena Vista clear attempt and firing a long, rolling shot that somehow roll past everybody and into the net for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. UD attempted 22 first half shots but was only able to to lead 2-0 through 45 minutes after Lucas Von Braun headed home a perfect corner kick from Logan Holevas in the 38th minute.

UD took 16 corners to Buena Vista's one and they would make take advantage of a corner once again in the 48th minute, this time it was Axel Aaman coming up with the header for the goal and Mathias Ericson dishing the assist. That 48th minute goal opened the floodgates for the UD attack, in the 60th minute Ericsson did the scoring, grabbing a long rebound, side stepping the BVU goalie for the easy put back goal.

Alessandro and Draek Littler extended the lead to 6-0 with goals in the 69th and 75th minutes. In the 85th minute, UD goalie Brandon White got his first real action of the night, facing a penalty kick and stopping it for the Senior Night highlight. That penalty stop would lead to frustrating from Buena Vista and giving UD a penalty kick of their own just a minute later and Suad Smajlovic would deliver it home. Isak Olsson put a ribbon on the night with an 89th minute goal off a long throw in from Matt Williamson.

UD fired off a season-high 42 shots.

The win moves UD to 5-1-1 in the conference and keeps them one point behind first place Loras heading into the final week of the season. The Spartans wrap up the season on Wednesday night at Coe College at 7:30 p.m.
