DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team captured two American Rivers Conference games on Wednesday afternoon after sweeping the doubleheader against the Loras College Duhawks 8-0 in five innings and 9-1.
In game one, the Spartans scored eight runs off 10 hits and committed one error.
Nicolette Evans earned the three hit victory for her efforts. She moved to a 4-1 record this season with the team's lowest ERA of 1.98 in 36.1 innings.
Kylee Biedermann sent the ball over the right field fence in the second inning, with a strong wind blowing the flag in. The strong hit scored
Brooke Goodman and
Cayla Cavanagh for three RBI's.Goodman and
Deanna Origer would both finish 2-2 at the plate. Eight Spartans would finish with hits as
Morgan Turnmire and
Emily Bloomer collected one double each.
Game two of the doubleheader would also fall in favor of UD by eight runs. UD scored nine runs in nine hits and played errorless ball in the 9-1 win. UD held the Duhawks to one run off seven hits and two errors.
Four Spartans ended the afternoon with two hits each.
Morgan Turnmire was 2-3 with homerun to left center and compiled three RBI's. Designated player
Rachel Trader not to be outdone would finish 2-4 with a homerun to left center and two RBI's.
Lauren Brown was 2-3,
Alyanna Martinez scored three times and was 2-2 with a double and an RBI.
Lexi Schmidt improved to 10-3 and tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and one earned run after facing 28 batters.
The Spartans (17-6 overall) will face American Rivers Conference foe, the Central College Dutch in Pella, Iowa on April 17-18.
