INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team fell behind early in the third game of the Nebraska Wesleyan series played at a neutral site on Monday (Simpson College) and were unable to overcome a 5-0 deficit through five innings in the 3-5 loss in American Rivers Conference play.
The Spartans rallied, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after an error by the right fielder. UD would add another in the bottom of the seventh after leadoff and designated player,
Rachel Trader, sent a long ball over the center field fence. The Spartans next at bat was a double by
Emily Bloomer to right center. She would get stuck at second base after a foul pop-up for the first out. The next two hitters would go down by a strike out swinging and a strike out looking.
UD scored three runs off four hits and committed one error. The Prairiewolves scored five runs after scattering 12 hits while committing one error.
Lexi Schmidt tossed the complete game with two strikeouts and allowing five earned runs.
The Spartans continue a busy week of play by travelling to Iowa Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon with doubleheader scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Spartans journey across town in another A-R-C battle with the Loras College Duhawks at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17-18 the Spartans travel to Pella, Iowa in another A-R-C series this time against the Central College Dutch with games scheduled on both dates at 1 p.m.
