INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team opened the 2021 AVCA Women's DIII Invitational with a 2-1 record on Friday. The Spartans opened play in Pool "C" with a victory over Webster 25-23, 26-24 (Friday's sets were best of 2-3 matches). The 2 p.m. match UD lost to Millikin 15-25, 21-25. The Spartans would win later in the evening over the Mississippi University of Women 27-25, 25-14.

Saturday's play in the championship bracket will place the Spartans in the Silver group, all second place teams from Friday's pool which includes a four team bracket with a consolation match. The Silver group includes: Lakeland University, University of Dubuque, Earlham College, and Augustana College. Saturday's matches will  all be, best of 3-5 sets.

Saturday's schedule:
10 a.m. - UD vs. Earlham on court 7
12 p.m. - Silver Consolation match on court 9
2 p.m. - Silver Finals on court 3

There will be a brief awards ceremony at the conclusion of the championship match. The AVCA and presenting sponsor, the United States Marine Corps, will present a team award for the AVCA Division III Invitational Tournament Champion and Gold Bracket Runner-Up. In addition, the All-Tournament team will be recognized. This team will consist of 7 players as listed below: 3 athletes from the Champion team 2 athletes from the Runner Up team 1 athlete each from the two semi-finalist teams (from Gold bracket) Athletes on the All-Tournament team will be selected by their head coach.
