DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque lacrosse team got back on track on Saturday with a 9-8 win over MSOE in a see saw affair.
The Spartans got on the board right away. After a long pass for the clear,
Will Robinson found
Ben Farraday for the quick early goal, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in. Both offense's would go quiet for most of the first quarter after the UD goal, until MSOE bounced a goal in with one second left on the clock.
The Raiders took two leads in the second quarter, but neither would last long as UD had an answer each time.
Tanner Weis and
Ben Farraday would each pick up a responding goal less than a minute after MSOE would take the lead. The score would hold at 3-3 until halftime in the defensive battle.
The back and forth affair continued into the third, with each team posting three goals in the quarter to head into the fourth all tied up at 6-6. MSOE would draw first blood in the fourth quarter but the Spartans responded in a big way, rattling off three straight goals to take a 9-7 lead, the first time all game either team has been up by more than one goal. The Spartans defense was able to hold firm despite playing a man down, while the UD offense milked the clock perfectly to seal a 9-8 win.
Three Spartans had multi goal performances on Saturday, led by
Gavin Hughes with three.
Tanner Weis and
Ben Farraday would each score two for the trio to tally seven of nine goals for UD.
Next week's game against Edgewood was canceled and the Spartans will now be off for eight days before hosting Aurora on Mar. 29 at 4 p.m.
